The popular play-to-earn NFT gameFi Axie Infinity has faced a severe compromise on its Discord server on Wednesday. The MEE6 bot on Discord was hacked which is generally used for automated roles like messaging by various crypto projects. The latter shared a false announcement about minting a coin on the platform.
Further, the hacker used the compromised bot to add permissions to a fake Jiho account on the Discord. However, the developers of the game have managed to remove the MEE6 bot from the main server. They have also deleted the fake messages propagated by the attacker on the server to avoid further complexities.
Axie Infinity informed about the attack through its official Twitter account and warned the users not to use see the fake message or use any provided link. According to the Axie Infinity announcement, many other servers were hacked through the MEE6 bot where they have disabled the bot to its entirety.

This is very unfortunate for Axie Infinity, that the hack is happening a second time on its platform. It is believed that the administrator account was hacked first through which he gained access to other alternate administrator accounts using the MEE6 bot. As a result of which, the hackers were at ease sending fake messages from the server.
On the contrary, the official developers of the MEE6 Discord support channel repudiated the assertions. As they claim, the technical developers did not see any unusual activity on the server that could lead to hacking.
Axie Infinity is working round the clock towards vigilant security for their network and ecosystem. However, this is the second time that the gamefi platform has experienced the hack. A month ago, the North Korean hacking group Lazarus Group hacked the Ronin Bridge and stole $625 million worth of ETH and USDC. Till now it is the biggest heist in the crypto industry.
The gaming platform is losing the confidence of the NFT community and its users. Whereas it is still struggling to revive the stolen funds.
